Laser Applications Position
Department of Chemistry and Physics
Arkansas State University

Arkansas State University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer with a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff. In support of this commitment, Arkansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in chemistry, engineering or physics with expertise in laser applications commencing August 2008.  A Ph.D. with relevant post-doctoral research experience is required. Qualified candidates at all levels (assistant, associate, or full professor) are invited to apply, although some professional experience beyond the postdoc is preferred.

The successful applicant would be expected to contribute to and enhance the work of the established, highly collaborative Arkansas Center for Laser Applications and Science (ArCLAS) consisting of four faculty, postdocs, doctoral and master’s graduate students and support staff.  An additional faculty member may join as the result of a concurrent physics search.  Current work in progress in the ArCLAS  includes:  an optical sensor program using LIF, CRD, SEP and STIRAP techniques, which is currently being funded by the Department of Defense; laser spectroscopy emphasizing CRD, Raman and PFFD; and laser/materials interactions such as:  laser/biomaterials, laser particle removal, photoacoustic diagnostics, and TOFMS LID of adsorbed contaminants.

In addition to establishing a vibrant research program, the ideal candidate will contribute to the education mission of ASU at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels as appropriate to their research expertise and interests.  The successful candidate will teach approximately one course per semester and supervise both undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory

Potential applicants are requested to electronically submit expressions of interest and a curriculum vitae to Prof. Susan Allen (sdallen@astate.edu).  Review of applications will begin October 8, 2007, and continue until the position is filled.
