Ibuprofen

Structure of Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that can be purchased over the counter to treat inflammation due to arthritis, mild pain, or to reduce fever. It can be found in different forms such as tablet, liquid, capsule or liquid-gel capsule.  It should be taken as directed along with food to prevent stomach discomfort.  It is important to health and wellness because it provides a way to treat pain without using a narcotic pain reliever, and it is inexpensive to buy compared to a prescription medication.

Ibuprofen is brand name Advil or Motrin.
Many other drugs also contain Ibuprofen.
