Zelnorm
(Tegaserod Maleate)


Tegaserod maleate is the active compound in the new drug Zelnorm.  Zelnorm is the first drug proven to relieve symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with constipation. 
IBS with constipation causes bloating, abdominal pain and bloating, and constipation.

Zelnorm (tegaserod maleate) works to initiate serotonin in the gastrointestinal tract to work properly by coordinating the muscles and nerves in the GI tract to start functioning properly.
 

Tegaserod is a maleate salt that is an off-white crystalline powder that is slightly soluble in water.  It is chemically designated as 3- (5- methoxy- 1H-indol-3-ylmethylene)-N-pentylcarbazimidamide hydrogen maleate.  Its empirical formula is C16H23N5O*C4H4O4. The molecular weight is 417.47 and the structural formula is as shown below:
 



 
 
 

Zelnorm is only available in 2 mg and 6 mg tablets for oral administration
