Ambien is a sleep aid mainly used to treat insomnia.  The active ingredient, zolpidem tartrate, works as a sedative hypnotic.  It requires a writen prescription from your doctor.  It should only be used for a short period of time, 7-10 days.

Ambien is available in a 5mg or a 10mg tablet.  It is usually taken before bed.  The most common side effects are drowsiness, dizziness, lighheadedness, and difficulty with motor skills.
