National
Chemistry Week
November 4-10, 2001
From
the American Chemical Society:
"Celebrating
Chemistry and Art.
As part of NCW-2001, local sections are asked to conduct a poster contest
for grades K-12 that has the theme "Celebrating Chemistry-Then and Now"
in recognition of the 125th Anniversary of the American Chemical Society.
Prizes will be awarded in three categories: elementary, middle, and high
school. Details of the contest will be available in June. Student Affiliates
will also have a chance to be artists as they participate in a T-shirt
design contest, "Chemistry - the Winning Formula." Winning chapters will
be awarded gift certificates for NCW products."
To get into the spirit of NCW, this year's Descriptive Inorganic Chemistry
class will focus on the chemistry of color, exploring compounds that are
used to create color in a variety of everyday items.
