Ketoconazole is a topical antifungal used to treat many
fungus and yeast infections of the skin. Ketoconazole is an active
ingredient in some creams and shampoos. The active ingredient in
Nizoral
shampoo
is 1% ketoconazole. This type of ketoconazole is the only form that
is available over the counter, other types are by prescription only.
In shampoos ketoconazole helps treat the fungus that causes dandruff.
Some of the side affects of this compound are itching, stinging, or irritation
of the scalp and skin. It also may cause dry skin and dryness or
oiliness if the hair and scalp.
