Hydrocodone bitartrate is a common pain reliever used in many different drugs.  It is used with acetaminophen to increase the effects of the hydrocodone.  In Vicodin, the ratio used is:  5mg Hydrocodone Bitartrate/500mg Acetaminophen.  However, Vicodin is known more as a controversial drug than for its health benefits.  Because of the narcotic properties in hydrocodone bitartrate, it is known to be habit forming.  Some people even intentionally overdose Vicodin in order to receive the effects that it produces.
