A Chiral Lagrangian as a Model for Charmonium Dynamics

Abstract:  We use a gauged four-flavor chiral Lagrangian to model interactions of J/$\psi$ with light mesons.  We also use a confining inter-quark potential to calculate meson wave functions which constrains three-point vertex form factors for off-shell charmed mesons.   Lorentz- and qauge-invariant scattering amplitudes, including form factors, allow estimates of charmonium breakup cross sections.   We use these results to calculate dissociation rates at finite temperature and begin piecing together the J/$\psi$ spectral function.  The expectation is that we can use the spectral function to shed light on the issue of J/$\psi$ suppression in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.
