Jan
Davis was born in Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1953. . She attended college
at: Georgia Institute of Technology for her B.S. in Applied Biology; Auburn
State for her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering; University of Alabama for
her M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.
She now lives in Alabama where she works at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space
Center (NASA) as an engineer.
She is part of a team that is charge of creating, building, assembling,
and operating the International Space Station. When asked what she felt
was the most rewarding task she has fulfilled so far the responded that
it is being a Mission Specialist and a performing scientist on three different
space shuttle flights.

As an astronaut Jan, has been able to launch into space three times already.
This has given her the opportunity to circle the Earth several times and
always allowed her to be on the edge of cutting technology. She performs
multiple tasks and experiments while on missions and is usually the head
scientist. She does research in astronomy, Earth sciences, life sciences
and material sciences while in space.
