Chemistry Keeps Us Healthy

Zinc Oxide

Zinc Oxide blocks ultraviolet radiation in sunlight from reaching the skin, and therefore is used to prevent sunburn.

Zinc Oxide is the most effective sunblock available!

Too much UV ray exposure can lead to skin cancer.  Skin cancer occurs more frequently than all other types of cancers combined.  Aside from skin cancer, the sun is responsible for many other changes in our skin.  Sun exposure will cause wrinkling, yellowing, and thinning of the skin.  It is estimated that 90% of skin changes that we associate to aging are actually due to sun exposure.  These changes are referred to as photoaging.  In other words, if we were constantly protected from the sun, our skin would barely change from the time we were about 20 years old!

Sunscreens such as zinc oxide are used to protect the skin for the harmful effects of the sun.

Zinc Oxide sunscreen should be applied liberally before exposure to sunlight and reapplied every one to two hours, especially after swimming or heavy perspiration.
