Chemistry Keeps Us Healthy

Boric Acid

H3BOBoric acid has many hygienic uses.  It  has antiseptic, antifungal, and antiviral properties.   A diluted water solution of boric acid  is commonly  used as an antiseptic or eyewash.  This is found in  eye contact solution.  We can use its antifungal properties to treat yeast infection.  Boric acid can also be made into a sodium borate ointment to get  rid of viral cold sores.

Boric acid can be attained from hot springs and vapors.  It is most commonly found, in the United States, in brines from Searles Lake in California.
