BYLAWS
OF THE
ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY
CHAPTER OF STUDENT AFFILIATES
OF THE
AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
JANUARY 1, 1961

Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Arkansas State University Chapter of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society.
Article II. Objects
The objects of this Chapter shall be to afford an opportunity for the students of chemistry and related areas at Arkansas State University to become better acquainted, to secure the intellectual stimulation that arises from professional association, to secure experience in preparing and presenting technical material before chemical audiences, to foster a professional spirit among the members, and to instill a professional pride in chemistry and chemical engineering.
Article III. Membership
The membership of this Chapter shall be composed of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, Members of the American Chemical Society and local Chapter members (Associate Members) not affiliated with the national ACS. A local Chapter member has all of the privileges of an Affiliate or Member of the ACS on the local level with the exception of holding office as explained in Article IV.
Article IV. Officers
The officers of this Chapter shall be a President,
Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer, who shall constitute the Executive
Committee.
If the number of local members exceeds the
number of Affiliates and Members, the officers shall all be Affiliates.
The officers shall be elected in April from
the nominees chosen by a nominating committee or nominated from the floor.
They shall take office on August 15 and shall hold office for one year
or until their successors are duly elected.
Article V. Duties of the Officers
The duties of the officers shall be such as usually pertain to the offices they hold. These duties include any requirements as may be made by the American Chemical Society.
Article VI. Faculty Advisor
This Chapter shall have as its Faculty Advisor a faculty member who is a Member of the American Chemical Society, whose duties shall be to serve as the official link between the Society and the Chapter and advise the Chapter both in its local activities and its relations with the Society. In the event the advisor is not appointed by the college, the advisor shall be elected annually.
Article VII. Professional Advisor
The Chapter at its annual election may select as a Professional Advisor a representative from industry who is a Member of the American Chemical Society, whose duties shall be to assist in choosing and securing speakers, movies, and other special aid from industry, and attempt to help college students become better oriented for industrial employment.
Article VIII. Meetings
Regular meetings shall be held at least an average of once a month during the school year. Special meetings may be called by the President through notice posted on bulletin boards in the Science Building. There shall be at least seven meetings per year.
Article IX. Dues
The annual national dues of the Student Affiliates
shall be sent individually to the Society.
Local dues of$10.00 annually or $5.00 per
semester shall be collected by the Treasurer of the Chapter. Membership
in the Chapter is limited to those who have paid local dues. Associate
members are required to pay only local dues. Local dues are waived for
Affiliate Members.
Article X. Committees
The following standing committees shall be
appointed by the President:
(1) Program Committee consisting of a chairman and two other members.
(2) Refreshment Committee consisting of a chairman and two other members.
(3) Membership Committee consisting of a chairman and three other members.
(4) Nominating Committee consisting of the Faculty Advisor, President,
and two other members.
(5) Alumni Committee consisting of a chairman and two other members.
Special committees may be appointed by the
President for the performance of a specific duty. The duties of the
above committees are to be set forth by the President of the Chapter.
The Executive Committee composed of the President,
Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer shall (1) endeavor to promote the
objects set forth in Article II, and (2) carry out the business of the
Chapter in such a manner as is acceptable to the Chapter, to the American
Chemical Society, and to Arkansas State University.
Article XI. Amendments
These Bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds
vote of the members, provided that the amendment shall have been proposed
at least one meeting previous to the time of voting. Such amendments
shall conform to the regulations established for Chapters of Student Affiliates.
